Poutine Fries and Gravy

This is a traditional Canadian comfort food dish. It has thick beef gravy and crispy fries on top.

Ingredients:

  • 4 large russet potatoes, scrubbed and cut into fries
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups cheese curds

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 425F 220C

In a large bowl, toss potatoes with olive oil, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and black pepper until evenly coated

Spread potatoes in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper

Bake for 30-35 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy

Meanwhile, in a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter

Add flour and whisk continuously until golden brown, about 2 minutes

Gradually whisk in beef broth and chicken broth until smooth

Stir in Worcestershire sauce and season with salt and pepper to taste

Simmer for 5-7 minutes until thickened

To assemble, place a serving of fries on a plate, top with cheese curds, and ladle gravy over the top

Serve immediately
